Physical Therapy Assistant Program
The Associate of Science Physical Therapist Assistant may be used as an entry point into a career in rehabilitation, or to provide supplemental skills and additional authority to treat patients and to make treatment decisions for individuals who already have background in medical treatment and /or rehabilitation. A student requires five (5) semesters, including one (1) summer session in order to finish the Program
The program has sixty-six (66) credits, including twenty-four (24) general education credits and forty-two (42) technical core credits. Of these 42 credits 30 credits will be from lecture/demonstration classes and 12 credits from clinical classes. PTA 101, PTA 107, PTA 105, PTA 207, PTA 217 and PTA 214 include both lecture and lab. Of the 12 clinical credits – PTA 115, PTA 205, PTA 215 will comprise 624 contact hours over 18 weeks.
The curriculum is designed with classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience for graduates to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide physical therapy services in the role of Certified Physical Therapist Assistants. The technical core of the curriculum is designed to allow the graduates to become clinical problem solvers, rather than exclusively treatment givers.

- The PTA Program does not guarantee entry into a Physical Therapy program. The PTA Professional course work may not be transferable to all Physical Therapy educational facilities.
- The PTA Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.
- The PTA Program is a full-time program and is currently only available at the Gary campus, with prerequisite available at all region 01 campuses.
