Paralegal
Program Description
Recognizing the demand for trained paralegals, Ivy Tech has shaped its paralegal studies curriculum with input from attorneys and other legal professionals. These advisors helped the College establish the qualifications needed to succeed in the paralegal field.
Trained paralegals assume a broad range of duties. For example, paralegals may perform legal research, draft legal correspondence and legal pleadings, interview clients and witnesses, and manage trial documents and exhibits.
Paralegal students receive all the skills necessary to succeed in their career. The curriculum emphasizes written and oral communication skills and provides in-class opportunities to develop technical skills. Courses are taught by experienced attorneys who are familiar with paralegals' role as part of the legal team.
A two-year program leads to an associate of applied science degree. An associate of science degree is offered at selected campuses. Both degrees are available through distance education two-way video classes.
