EVER THINK ABOUT BECOMING A TEACHER OR TEACHER ASSISTANT?
Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana Northwest now offers an Associate of Science in Elementary Education. This program is designed for students interested in entering the field of education as well as experienced paraprofessionals seeking the necessary certification.
The Associate of Science in Elementary Education degree will prepare graduates to serve as teacher assistants or as elementary teachers by transferring at the completion of the associate degree to an institution offering a bachelor's degree. Ivy Tech Community College has a partnership with Indiana State University which guarantees the transfer of the Associate of Science in Elementary Education degree to the bachelor degree program in elementary education. Ivy Tech is working on similar arrangements with other institutions throughout the state.
Some of the required classes may be taken at any of the Ivy Tech Northwest campuses including Gary, East Chicago, Valparaiso, and Michigan City. Students may contact the Office of Student Affairs at their local campus by calling 1-888-IVY-LINE. The elementary education classes are offered at the Michigan City Campus and some are offered online via distance education. The Michigan City Campus is located at 3714 Franklin Street. Registration for classes is underway. Classes begin January 8, 2007.
