IVY TECH COMMUNITY COLLEGE REPORTS RECORD ENROLLMENT
Ivy Tech Community College reported today that Monday (8/21) the college hit a record high for first day of class enrollment. With 69,803 students enrolled as of Monday, the college’s statewide total headcount was up 6.9% over the first day of classes last fall (8/22/05).
Ivy Tech Northwest (Gary, Valpo, East Chicago and Michigan City) saw an increase of 4% from this time a year ago. Chancellor J. Guadalupe Valtierra said the increase can be attributed to several factors. “I believe students are beginning to understand what a community college, like Ivy Tech, can offer. Students are seeing that they can take their two year degree and obtain a good paying job or easily transfer to one of our area four-year institutions and continue their studies.” Valtierra added that the new campus building in Valparaiso has had a positive impact on enrollment throughout the northwest region.
Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s second largest public post-secondary institution serving over 100,000 students a year. Ivy Tech has 23 campuses throughout Indiana. It serves as the state's engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that is aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
