DESERVING IVY TECH STUDENT RECEIVES 2ND MORTUARY SCHOLARSHIP
Ivy Tech mortuary science student, Dana Kelly-White, has been chosen to receive the 2006 Isaac Ball scholarship, sponsored by the Indiana Funeral Education Foundation. The scholarship, named in honor of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association’s first president Isaac Ball, is given annually to qualified funeral service students who are student members of IFDA and intend to serve their internships in the state of Indiana.
The Isaac Ball scholarship marks the 2nd award bestowed upon Mrs. Kelly-White. In December, 2005 Kelly-White was also awarded the Trigard Vault Company scholarship. Both awards were conferred based on her winning essays on the experiences she underwent to make the decision to enter the funeral service profession and what her plans were for getting started after graduation.
Thirty (30) yr-old Kelly-White says she originally intended to pursue a degree in Mortuary Science after graduating from high school in 1993, but chose to enter Social Services instead. “My desire has always been to help those in need no | | Scholarship recipient, Dana Kelly White and advisory committee chair, James F. matter what the capacity. But, I decided to return to school and pursue this deferred dream for my family and myself. I feel that the position of Funeral Director is a noble profession. This is my calling and now I am finally getting the opportunity to answer after many years.”
Kelly White’s future plans are to remain in Indiana, gain work experience in the field and eventually return to Ivy Tech as an instructor or guest lecturer. The $1000.00 scholarship will be disbursed at the beginning of the fall semester; Kelly-White is scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2007.
