UNITED STATES STEEL DONATES $50,000 TO NEW IVY TECH CAMPUS CAMPAIGN

United States Steel (USS) Corporation recently made a $50,000 contribution to Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana for its Valparaiso campus capital campaign. The check was presented on behalf of USS by Ray Terza, USS Gary Works general manager at the Gary Works office on August 31. USS’s contribution assisted the College in raising over $3.3 million for its capital campaign effort. The USS investment will assist Ivy Tech to outfit the welding lab at the new campus with state-of-the-art equipment to adequately fulfill local needs for specialized training.
The Valparaiso campus is being built in two phases. Phase I was completed in July, 2006. Phase II construction began in summer 2006. The entire campus, when completed in 2008, is a $38 million, 185,000 square foot project. .
Cindy Hall, executive director of development for Ivy Tech said, “This gift to Ivy Tech will help students learn the basic skills they need to become good employees and teach the technical abilities they must have to help business grow and prosper.”
“Ivy Tech is ready to provide that needed training. Investments from our community partners are critical to meeting employer needs for technically trained workers – now and in the future,” Hall concluded. The Valparaiso campus held an official dedication for the new campus on September 6th.
