Maassell Selected To Receive Honorary Degree from Ivy Tech
Mark Maassel, former president of Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) will receive an Honorary Degree from Ivy Tech Community College-Northwest at the 39th Commencement Ceremony on May 10 at 11 a.m. at the Gary Genesis Convention Center, One Genesis Plaza. He will receive an Associate of Science in College and Community Service for his extensive and distinguished service as both a community and business leader in Northwest Indiana.
Under his leadership as tri-chair for the Ivy Tech Foundation capital campaign, nearly $3 million was raised to fund the Ivy Tech Community College Valpo campus at 3100 Ivy Tech Drive in Valparaiso. The new 185,000 square feet campus serves not only students in the Valpo area, but throughout northwest Indiana. He is also former chair of the board of directors of the Ivy Tech Community College Foundation that serves all 23 campuses of Ivy Tech throughout Indiana.
His volunteer work includes numerous hours serving with not-for-profit organizations such as the Northeast Indiana Corporate Council Board of Directors, Regional Approach for Progress , former chair of the Northwest Indiana Forum, Lake Area United Way Board of Directors, Porter County Community Foundation Board of Directors, vice president and Crisis Center Board of Directors, Indiana State Chamber of Commerce, Indiana Society of Chicago, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Metropolitan Planning Council Advisory Panel, and former president and council member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
